Meet our experts: Anthony Miner
In the next iteration of our “Meet our Experts” series, where you will hear employees share some of their unique expertise and knowledge, meet Anthony Miner. Driven by a passion for global trade sparked by a Professor, Anthony early on targeted Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
Say hello to,
Anthony Miner. I have been working in safety, quality and sustainability roles for more than 13 years. I’ve been in my new role for nearly a year as responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing an integrated management system across the entire Wallenius Wilhelmsen global organization.
I’ve dedicated my career to safety, quality, and sustainability at Wallenius Wilhelmsen. My academic journey in master’s in business administration, with a focus on international management, laid the foundation for my professional path.
A Passion for Excellence: From Academia to Opportunity
My commitment to excellence led me to the role of quality manager at the Baltimore VPC, where I oversaw import-export operations and collaborated with a diverse range of customers. I was then promoted to operations manager, a role in which I spearheaded the ISO certification process for a new customer in under a year.
As a continuous improvement manager, I expanded the ISO certification to additional facilities and customers, and launched a comprehensive safety program.
Though my online application went unanswered, persistence paid off. At a Christmas party, I met Wallenius Wilhelmsen employees, networked, and landed an interview. This experience solidified the value of perseverance and initiative I bring into all aspects of my work.
Rising Through the Ranks: My Journey of Continuous Improvement
In my current role, I am responsible for the development, maintenance, and implementation of an integrated management system across our global operations. This will enable us to work as one as we operationalize sustainability, strengthen safety and ensure that we deliver the quality our customers expect from us.
Driving Global Excellence: From Emergency Preparedness to Optimized Shipping
As the emergency management representative for logistics and coordinator in the global emergency management team, I’ve been at the helm of navigating through some of the most challenging situations. This has been pivotal in preparing our organization for unforeseen events. My efforts in incorporating the ISO structure into the EMT strengthen our effectiveness. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the development of emergency action plans and the implementation of training, which has instilled a greater sense of security and readiness across our organization.
Tell us more about your focus …
I am currently directing my focus towards our shipping operations, with the goal of refining their management system. Drawing from the best practices within logistics services, we are developing and constructing one integrated management system (IMS)across the segments. This initiative is designed to unify processes, boost operational efficiency, and promote a consistent approach to management systems at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
A Commitment to Continuous Improvement
This builds on the substantial progress achieved in the ISO certification expansion project, which was a significant milestone for the company, achieving ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications for over 80 percent of our land-based operations.
It reflects our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, environment and safety. My current project underscores my commitment to continual improvement and operational excellence within the company. After we get the shipping services management system certified by the ISO Standards, I will continue to build off frontline successes and extend those governance practices to the corporate function level, setting the organization up for one way of working and group ISO certification.
