Our new Carbon Calculator has been created to bring more clarity into the planning phase.

The calculator lets you explore the estimated emissions impact of your shipment choices with greater accuracy and transparency, which gives you the insight you need before goods are on the move.

What is the Carbon Calculator?

The Carbon Calculator is a digital tool that allows you to estimate and understand your carbon footprint across our shipping operations.

The Carbon Calculator lets you estimate Well-to-Wake (WTW) CO₂e emissions before transport, helping you compare options and understand the impact of your choices.

By selecting loading and discharge ports and entering cargo details, the tool applies DNV – Maritime Advisory verified emission intensities specific to each trade lane.

Real-world distance adjustments and our estimated planned fuel mix are factored in, which might give you a more accurate and realistic estimate of potential emissions and reduction opportunities. Distances shown in the calculator include a 15% adjustment to account for conditions such as additional port calls and weather conditions.

The calculator includes estimates for both the use of conventional fuel and our planned fuel mix, considering the emission savings from biofuel and LNG.

Why is the Carbon Calculator important?

Understanding your supply chain emissions is becoming essential — not just for reporting, but for planning, target-setting, and making informed transport decisions.

The Carbon Calculator sets a new benchmark for transparency and accuracy for our customers’ Scope 3 emissions

Jørgen Westrum Thorsen

Vice President Orcelle Accelerator at Wallenius Wilhelmsen

“By integrating seamlessly with Carbon Compass and leveraging the latest industry methodologies, it ensures that every calculation is robust and consistent., Our customers gain new insight into their possible CO₂e impact, making sustainability decisions clearer and more credible," Westrum Thorsen says.

The tool gives you transparent, trade-lane-specific estimates of Scope 3 emissions for sea-going transportation, including the reductions you gain from our estimated planned fuel mix for BAF 2.0 customers.

Consistent, credible data you can rely on

Because the calculator and our Carbon Compass use the same data and methodology, the estimates you see during planning align with the verified emissions we report after transport. The calculator provides the forecast; Carbon Compass delivers the final audited numbers.

This consistency strengthens your internal ESG work, supports RFQ processes, and helps you meet Scope 3 reporting requirements with confidence.

All emission intensities are verified by DNV Maritime Advisory, reflect current operational performance, and include benchmarking against industry averages calculated by the Smart Freight Centre. This gives you clarity on how potential shipments compare across fuels, routes, and providers.

Whether you’re working toward Scope 3 targets, preparing ESG disclosures, or planning future shipments, the Carbon Calculator provides the data you need to make decisions that align with your sustainability goals.
