MV Tongala was on her way from Charleston in South Carolina to Bremerhaven in Germany when she was alerted to a May Day request from a Norwegian yachtsman.

His yacht, SY Mathilde, was taking on water as a result of heavy Atlantic swells.

Despite communication between the two vessels being intermittent, WW Ocean’s vessel approached the yacht and began the rescue effort.

The crew was able to bring the male passenger safely onboard MV Tongala via the pilot ladder.

“We would like to thank the captain and crew for a very professional rescue operation in the early morning hours. Efforts like that really makes us proud of having you all onboard,” says Filip Svensson, Senior Safety, Quality & Security Manager, WW Ocean.

Congratulations to the WW Ocean crew involved!
