Simon White takes on newly-created chief digital officer role
To further drive Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s technological capabilities, Simon White, former global head of commercial, is stepping into the newly-created chief digital officer role.
Simon White has been named Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s new chief digital officer (CDO) – a role created to further drive the business’ technological capabilities.
Chief executive Craig Jasienski said: “We firmly believe new opportunities lie in the vehicle supply chains of the future. Disruption continues around us and will certainly have an impact on our industry and the value chains in which we serve and operate. Our focus will be on evolving the role of IT and transforming it into a digital centre capable of driving business development.”
White joined Wilhelmsen Lines in his native Australia in 1995, and has held various positions within commercial, operations and technology in Australia, Norway, Belgium and Sweden.
He spent six years in UECC as senior vice president of trade and operations from 2008, before returning to Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics in 2014.
White said: “The fourth industrial revolution promises to transform the way global businesses operate as the lines between the physical, digital and ecological spheres are blurred. I’m delighted to be taking on this new role at a time when digital technology is already revolutionising the logistics sector. Digital solutions and new technologies will support us to enhance the services we provide our customers, optimise supply chains and help to fulfil our environmental responsibilities.”
A successor to take over Simon’s commercial responsibilities in WW Ocean will be announced as soon as possible. In the meantime, Erik Jensen, VP sales Europe and Africa, will be acting global head of sales.
