New brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) regulations announced

Australian authorities have announced new regulations for the upcoming brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) season.

New BMSB regulations announced

The Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) has finalised regulations for exporters to Australia in advance of the 2019/2020 stink bug season.

The so-called seasonal measures are applicable for cargo exported from the countries below from 1 September 2019 and that arrive in Australian territory by 31 May 2020 (inclusive):

  • Albania
  • Andorra
  • Armenia
  • Austria
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belgium
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Canada
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • France
  • Georgia
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Italy
  • Kosovo
  • Liechtenstein
  • Luxembourg
  • Macedonia
  • Montenegro
  • Netherlands
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Switzerland
  • Spain
  • Turkey
  • United States of America
  • Japan (heightened vessel surveillance will be the only measure applied).

Please note that the list of countries affected has been significantly expanded in order to address the spread of BMSBs, particularly throughout Europe.
